Movie World Off-Peak Review - March 2024

WBMW Insider Park Visit

We visited Warner Bros. Movie World on Tuesday, March 26th, just a few days before the start of the Queensland school holidays and a week prior to the interstate school holidays. Despite the rainy and miserable weather, we ventured around the park to see what's happening.

Ride Updates:

Currently at Warner Brothers Movie World, the following rides are down for Maintenance: Batwing Spaceshot, Superman Escape, and Marvin the Martin. Superman Escape is closed to allow for construction of the Wizard of Oz Precinct and Flash: Speed Force.

Batwing Spaceshot

The ride's gondola has been fully reassembled, and the surrounding area has been nicely presented. It appears there may have been a minor paint touch-up and some pruning done as well.
We did not see the ride testing at all.

Superman Escape

The ride looks and sounds the same, but hopefully, it will be smoother when it reopens on the 30th! We observed testing for around an hour in the morning, with constant cycles. Only one of the trains was cycling, while the other remained in the maintenance bay.

Flash Speed Force

The ride's vehicle has been assembled, with only the seats left to install. I attempted to observe the installation of the seats/restraints, but unfortunately, I couldn't catch sight of them. There was no visible work on it yesterday, and the surfboard looks pristine.

Wizard of Oz Precinct

The three coasters are complete, with Flight of the Wicked Witch sporting a color scheme reminiscent of DC Rivals. This coaster is visible from multiple angles in the park (just before the Main Street Canopy), including the Lift Hill of DC Rivals when looking backwards, the Final Break run of DC Rivals, the turn into the station and the station.

Β When viewing the Construction from DC Rivals, it is evident that the closure of Superman Escape has allowed for work on the pathway into the land. So far, it closely resembles the concept art. A curved pathway has been constructed into the land with planters on either side.

The counterweights at the top of each of the arms have been removed.
Interestingly, a similar situation occurred with Vortex late last year, when its annual maintenance was unexpectedly extended from October to early January 2024.

The park has yet to confirm anything about these changes, leaving us still unsure about the fate of this ride. Speculation is growing that the ride may receive new counterweights as recommended by INTAMIN, the ride's manufacturer, in an effort to increase its reliability.

Our day:

Despite the rain making it a wet day, all rides were operational as scheduled. With short queues throughout the day and only Wild West Falls breaking down late afternoon, overall, it was a pretty good day. However, there were some unexpected surprises, such as DC Rivals opening around 10:30 without any prior communication from the park.

Most outdoor activities were centered around Main Street, where everything was conveniently undercover. Additionally, a short and makeshift parade took place. Notably, plenty of characters were visible around an hour before the parade began.
We made the most of this opportunity staying for most of the day getting plenty of re-rides and taking in this atmosphere before the parks are slammed over the next month.

Is it Worth Purchasing Fast Track in Off-Peak Times?

No, definitely not. For a day like Tuesday, which saw a very small number of people 5-10 min before the park before opening, we would strongly advise against purchasing it. In our experience, if there are only a few people at the park gates when they open or if the queue to get in doesn't extend beyond the ticket area, it will likely be a quieter day.
